Dr Rhona Smith is Professor of International Human Rights at Newcastle University and Head of Newcastle University Law School. She has taught and researched human rights for more than twenty-five years. Her publications include International Human Rights (OUP), Text and Materials on Human Rights (Routledge) and articles on various matters including human rights education and international human rights monitoring. In practice, she has worked on a number of human rights capacity building projects around the world, particularly in academic and justice sectors. China and Southeast Asia has been a particular focus. At present she also serves as the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia.
